Moving Van Rental

A moving van rental is the ideal moving container for those who have a small moving load.  This is great for those in studio or small apartments.  However, anything larger than this size and moving truck or other moving container would be far better so you can avoid any additional trips.  A number of the major truck rental companies offer a moving van rental.  Most often, this comes in the form of cargo van.  To help make your research easier, we have put together a list of what the major companies essentially offer: 

U-Haul 

U-Haul’s moving van rental consists of a basic cargo van.  It is recommended for smaller loads and has size dimensions for loading space of roughly 9’2” x 5’8” x 4’5”.  It uses unleaded fuel and get about 15mpg and 35 gallon fuel tank.  It has a storage space of 236 cubic feet.  

Budget 

They also offer a cargo van that they recommend for moving one or two rooms.  Budget’s sizes are very comparable to the U-Haul (10’11” x 5’6.75” x 4’4”.  It also has a 35 gallon fuel tank.  It has 209.4 cubic feet of storage space. 

Penske 

Offers some cargo vans for local moves, but does not offer vans for one way moves.  To get more information on cargo vans for local moves, you would need to contact Penske’s local office.   

Ryder 

Ryder has several van options available: the panel van, city van, and the parcel van.  Of the three from Ryder, the panel van is the only one that takes on a cargo van look.  The other two have the appearance of small rental trucks. 

Panel Van 

The panel van is recommended for a one room or studio apartment.  This would be great for college moves or small apartment moving.  It has the storage space of 9 to 10 feet.  It has also has a side door which is great for easier loading and unloading. 

City Van 

The city van has a storage space size of 14 to 16 feet.  It is recommended for 3 to 4 rooms.  It operates on diesel fuel which can be a challenge finding sometimes.  However, it does have an automatic transmission and a low cab design allowing for more driving maneuverability. 

Parcel Van 

The parcel van offers 12 to 14 feet of storage space.  This is recommended for 1 to 3 rooms.   

Enterprise Rent-A-Car 

Enterprise rents out several cargo vans as well.  These rental vans are the GM Express, the Ford Econoline and other similar cargo vans.  Which ones are available will vary depending on your exact location.
