Moving Vans  

Moving vans or cargo moving vans can be a very useful moving container for smaller moves.  The van’s size and functionality works great for people used to driving SUVs and similarly sized vehicles.  People find making turns and backing up is much easier in a van than a rental truck.   

Popular moving van companies include U-Haul, Penske, Budget, United Van Lines and Allied Van Lines.  However, there are other regional companies as well.  The size of moving vans varies, but the average cargo van tends to be about 4 to 4.5 feet high and 4.5 to 5 feet wide and have a length of 9 to 10 feet.  These dimensions are very important to consider when deciding whether your belongings can fit into the van.  The smaller size of the height alone may be an impediment for some people.  However, the max load can be up to 3,500 to 4,000 pounds and so it holds a weight close to those of moving pods and other moving containers. 

Another consideration for consumers is to review the reputation of the company and to look over the specific moving van.  Renting a moving van can be a hit or miss experience on the actual quality of the van.  A couple of things you can do to increase the odds you are getting a good cargo moving van are to stick to the top companies and read reviews on your individual store outlet.  Since each individual store outlet’s customer service and van upkeep can vary, it pays to do some research on the specific location.  However, regardless of what you find out, you will want to review the individual moving van and make sure it is in proper working order.  Specific things to look for are an operational air conditioning and heating system, possibly a ramp or a lift on the back of the van to help aid loading and unloading, and spot check for clear signs of bumps or collisions around the perimeter of the vehicle.  By doing a little research work and a proper inspection, you significantly increase the odds of getting a good moving van for your move.
