Portable Storage Unit: How To
Make The Most Out of Your Portable Storage Container
A portable storage unit can be a great space saver and money
saver. It may very
well be the best portable storage container or at the top of
the list for portable storage structures. It can be used to help move
items out of your house or to clear some space or it can be
used to store temporary items. In these areas, temporary
storage units work really well.
1. Pick a size
that will fit your belongings and allow some room to
spare.
The general rule is to leave 10 to 20% space
open. The
idea here is to give you some room to move around in if
you need to get something out. A lot of people will
overlook this tip thinking they are putting the space to
good use; however, this is short sighted. For example, consider
the extra time it will take to pull out a bunch boxes to
get to a box in the back. Instead, if you left a
walk space in the middle of the portable storage unit,
you could easily get to any boxes much more quickly
without significantly disturbing your previous
loading. You
will find this tip works well with all temporary storage
units or portable storage structures.
2. If using boxes,
create an inventory list and clearly label all your
boxes.
Taking a little time to inventory the items loaded and clearly
labeling the boxes with a black pen can help making finding an
item you need much easier. In addition, if something
were to happen to the portable storage container, like a fire,
you will have a clear record of your
belongings.
In addition, this system does not have to be
elaborate.
Using a simple A,B,C labeling of the boxes and a basic
numbering of the items in each box will work
fine. Then,
just put this into a computer file and you should be good
to go. You
will be surprised how helpful this can be in locating an
item in portable storage structures. Often, you will find
that you should not have loaded an item in retrospect and
will need to retrieve it.
3. If using for
adjunct storage, try to load boxes with similar items placed
together.
In an effort to be even more efficient, make sure you keep all
your relevant items in the same boxes. This will help bolster your
existing inventory list and make it easier to find the items
you may need.
Also, place all items that you feel you may need in the front
of the portable storage structures as opposed to the
back. This will
help make it easier to locate the items you will actually
need.
These tips provided are not earth-shattering, but we have found
the simplest tips often work the best, especially with
temporary storage units. When using your portable storage unit,
be sure to take these tips into account. If you do, you are very
likely to maximize the value of your portable storage
container. In the
end, this is what we are looking for from our portable storage
